About listmonk

listmonk is distributed as a single Go binary paired with a PostgreSQL database. It covers subscribers, lists, templates, campaigns, tracking of opens and clicks, handling of bounces, and an API for transactional messages, staying responsive even with large lists. The software is released under the AGPL licence, and its web interface runs on port 9000.

listmonk itself does not deliver mail; it hands off messages to an SMTP server you configure, so deliverability depends on that provider's reputation. Our platform blocks sending over ports 465, 587 and 25, so pick a provider that supports delivery through port 2525. Set up SPF and DKIM entries for whichever domain you send from, and add a DMARC record as well. Start by sending to only a few hundred addresses before reaching your entire list, since Gmail and similar providers may otherwise treat you as unfamiliar.

Treat subscriber consent carefully: rely on double opt-in signup forms, keep records showing where each address came from, and make sure templates contain the {{ UnsubscribeURL }} tag, since listmonk does not insert it automatically. You can adjust the sending rate and concurrency limit from Settings → Performance, to stay within what your mail provider allows. Restarting the app does not erase your campaigns, since all data is kept in PostgreSQL.

Setting up listmonk

  1. Install the app and set up the admin account: choose listmonk from the app store, open its address, then create the administrator login.
  2. Connect an SMTP provider: supply the mail host, port number 2525, and login details from your provider under Settings, SMTP, then fire off the built-in test message.
  3. Bring in your subscribers: upload a CSV of contacts who gave consent, or embed the public signup form with double opt-in on your site.
  4. Send a trial campaign to addresses you control, check how the template displays, then gradually widen distribution to a few hundred people before mailing your complete list.

Choosing a plan size for listmonk

Lists sized in the tens of thousands, receiving a newsletter every weekStarterGo and PostgreSQL handle this efficiently; your mail provider's sending rate is the real limit.

The smallest plan that fits listmonk

Our Starter plan provides 1 vCPU core, 1 GB of RAM and 20 GB of storage, enough for up to 2 apps — plenty to run listmonk next to your other code on the same box. Billing happens monthly, and the listed price excludes 18% GST.

Frequently asked questions about listmonk hosting

How does listmonk deliver email?

listmonk relies on an SMTP server that you configure yourself. SMTP delivery on ports 587, 465 and 25 is blocked on NABHCLOUD Apps, so choose a mail provider that can send through port 2525.

Does it cope well with large subscriber lists?

Yes. listmonk runs as one Go binary backed by PostgreSQL and is designed for large lists; how fast it sends depends mainly on the limits set by your mail provider.

Will my emails land in the inbox?

Reaching the inbox is determined by your sending domain and your mail provider, not by listmonk. Add SPF and DKIM entries, set up DMARC, then build up gradually using small test sends.

Can subscribers be moved over from Mailchimp?

Export your subscriber list as a CSV from Mailchimp, then import it into listmonk. Only bring in contacts who have genuinely agreed to receive mail.

What does one-click installation involve?

Pick an app from our store, select which app server to deploy it on, then click Install. It receives its own HTTPS address, generated passwords shown once, and goes live within a minute or two.
