What data sovereignty means for a VPS in India: where data sits, whose law applies, and what the DPDP Act and CERT-In require you to check.
Data sovereignty means more than storing a copy of your data inside the country. It means the storage and processing happen on Indian soil, under Indian law, through a provider that answers to Indian regulators. For a VPS this comes down to three things worth checking: the physical location of the servers and backups, which legal entity and which country's law governs them, and what the provider does to meet the CERT-In directions and the DPDP Act. This guide walks through each point, along with how NABHCLOUD meets it.

A provider based abroad can still open a datacentre region inside India, so your data is physically resident here — yet the company controlling that infrastructure can remain answerable to its home country's law as well. True sovereignty turns on a second question: which legal entity actually holds your data, and which courts and regulators can compel it.
NABHCLOUD operates as an Indian private limited company with its own GST registration. Our servers, our network (autonomous system AS152523, peered at Extreme IX) and our Noida datacentre are all based in India, so your data stays solely under Indian jurisdiction. Read more on our India cloud page.
Our Noida (Delhi NCR) region is live now, with Mumbai and Chennai planned next. Round trips from Noida run at roughly 40 ms to Mumbai, 40 ms to Hyderabad and 60 ms to Bengaluru, so one Indian region can serve users across the whole country. See our locations page.
Only if you move it yourself. Servers, snapshots and object storage stay within the Indian region, with no cross-border replication and no offshore backups.
Yes. We operate as an Indian private limited company with our own GST registration, running our own network and hardware out of a Noida datacentre.
It helps, but isn't enough on its own. Processing your data in India through an Indian entity removes cross-border transfer concerns; the rest of compliance depends on how your application collects, uses and protects personal data.
The CERT-In directions require Indian cloud and VPS providers to verify customers and keep records. It's a one-time check per account.
Yes — contact our support team, and we will act as the data processor for your workloads.
Noida (Delhi NCR) is live today. Mumbai and Chennai are planned next, and a snapshot lets you move a server between regions.
