Host Directus in India with One-Click Install | NABHCLOUD

Install Directus with one click to get a REST and GraphQL API plus a no-code admin panel on your SQL database, hosted in Noida with HTTPS included.

Directus turns an existing SQL database into a ready REST and GraphQL API, along with a no-code admin interface. Our app hosting sets it up with PostgreSQL, giving content editors a clean dashboard and developers a ready API.

Install Directus in one click. See plans

Directus needs our Starter plan or higher. Current plans and prices are shown on this page, excluding GST. Every plan includes HTTPS, a domain of your choice, and a GST invoice, all hosted from our Noida facility.

Common uses for Directus

  • A headless CMS feeding a Next.js site or mobile app
  • An internal admin dashboard sitting on top of a database
  • A catalogue of products, with an API that your storefront can call
  • Managing files and assets with controlled access

After installation

Installing sets up Directus together with PostgreSQL. Your admin password is stored inside the dashboard, under Login details. Sign in using admin@example.com with that password, then update your email and password from your profile settings.

  • Gets its own address under our apps subdomain, running on HTTPS right from the start
  • Needed passwords get generated automatically and appear under Login details, where you can look them up anytime afterward
  • Runs on a dedicated application server that stays on at all times; no SSH or Docker required
  • Access logs, restarts and domain settings through the NABHCLOUD dashboard

About Directus

Directus does not require you to design your data within the tool itself. Instead, it connects to a SQL database and reads whatever tables and columns already exist, then builds REST and GraphQL API endpoints, plus an admin interface, around them. Creating a collection through the interface adds a matching table in PostgreSQL, and manually adding a table gets detected automatically by Directus. This makes it useful when a database already existed before the CMS was introduced.

Most of the complexity lies in managing access. Permissions can be configured by collection, by action, and even by individual field, and the public role begins with zero access granted. A common mistake is shipping an interface that behaves correctly for a signed-in administrator, yet returns empty results to ordinary visitors, simply because nobody turned on read access for the public role. Check this by testing a request while logged out, early in development.

A handful of configuration values matter for every setup. The PUBLIC_URL setting needs to match the actual address visitors use, otherwise redirects and single sign-on can misbehave. CORS settings must permit your front end's origin, uploaded files are stored in the uploads folder, and the container listens on port 8055. Directus is released under the Business Source License, which allows free use below a set revenue threshold, so larger companies should review the license terms.

Setting up Directus

  1. Install the app and sign in. Pick Directus from the app store. Find the initial admin email and password on the app's dashboard page, listed under Login details, unless the install generated them automatically — in that case they come from the ADMIN_EMAIL and ADMIN_PASSWORD settings.
  2. Update the admin account. Replace the email address and password on your user profile right away, then add a second admin account for yourself as a backup in case the first gets locked out.
  3. Build a collection. Add a collection along with some fields and sample records. You can check PostgreSQL afterwards; it created a normal table.
  4. Grant public read access. Go to Settings, then Access Policies or Roles, and allow the public role read access only for the collections your front end actually displays. Verify this using curl from a device that holds no access token.
  5. Permit your front end. Configure the CORS origin to match your site's address, and confirm with a fetch call from the browser console rather than only curl.

Common questions about Directus hosting

Is the API open to everyone?

No, only what you explicitly expose. Directus assigns permissions per collection and role, and by default the public role starts without any access — you must turn it on yourself.

Can I connect a front end to it?

Yes, that is fine. Put your front end — made with Next.js, Vite or another framework — on a second app on that same server, and have it call the Directus API from there.

Can I point it at a database I already have?

Yes, provided it is PostgreSQL or another SQL-compatible database that Directus works with. Take a backup before connecting it to live tables, because Directus adds its own system tables there too.

How do I push changes from staging to production?

Generate a schema snapshot using the Directus CLI on the source environment, then apply it on the target. Content records need to move separately, via the API or by dumping the database.

How does the one-click install work?

Pick an application from our app store, choose which app server should run it, and click Install. It receives its own HTTPS address, its passwords are created automatically and displayed once, and the whole thing goes live within a couple of minutes.
