A Practical Guide to Low-Cost VPS Hosting in India

Keep VPS costs down in India: pick the right size, match hourly or term billing to runtime, check what's included, and avoid idle charges.

Guides

A genuinely affordable VPS keeps your overall spend small across the whole period you run it, rather than simply offering the lowest listed figure. This guide explains where VPS hosting in India costs actually come from and how you can control each part of that spend.

Browse VPS plans — hourly billing, a GST invoice, and a server that's live inside a minute.

What a budget VPS must still cover

Only compare prices across servers you could genuinely use for your workload. A low price that leaves out the IP address, or skips DDoS defence, turns costly the moment you must add them separately. Confirm these are bundled into the price:

  • An IPv4 address that is public, so you can reach the server without buying a second one.
  • DDoS protection that filters out attack traffic rather than null-routing your IP (taking it offline) until the attack passes.
  • Keep at least one snapshot available, letting you undo a failed update without buying a backup add-on.
  • NVMe storage and RAM that are reserved for you, so performance does not dip when another tenant on the same host is under heavy load.
  • A GST tax invoice, for businesses that want to reclaim the tax.

What our pricing already covers

Each NABHCLOUD plan includes a 1 Gbps port, an IPv4 address, one snapshot and DDoS protection from Cloudflare, with no setup fee. Inbound data transfer costs nothing, and outbound traffic is fair-use rather than metered, so growing usage will not inflate your bill.

Current sizes and their monthly or hourly rates, before 18% GST, are listed on our pricing page.

Our cloud server pricing guide breaks the cost down by vCPU, RAM and NVMe rates, and lists extra charges worth checking at other providers.

Right-size before you look for a lower rate

The biggest saving rarely comes from a cheaper rate — it comes from choosing a smaller server. Identify what will actually run on it — a small WordPress site, an automation bot, a VPN, or a disposable test box — then pick the smallest size able to handle it. Our VPS page includes sizing guidance that maps typical workloads onto plan sizes.

Because our KVM VPS instances resize without rebuilding, you keep the same IP address and data when sizing up later — the cost is just a reboot, not a migration. If none of our standard plans fit, use our server builder to configure vCPU, RAM and disk in the exact combination you need.

Match your billing term to the server's runtime

Hourly billing suits testing, events and short-lived projects. You pay for each hour you start, and every server carries a 1-hour minimum charge. Once a server runs for most of the month, switching to a monthly plan — priced 30% below the hourly rate — becomes the better deal, which happens once usage passes about 511 hours, or roughly 21 days, within that month.

Commit for longer still and the rate falls further — 44% below hourly for a 12-month term, and 65% below hourly for a 36-month term. Our guide comparing hourly and monthly billing walks through that break-even point in detail.

Where a cheap VPS can quietly get expensive

Check for these before buying from any provider:

  • Bandwidth metering on outbound traffic — a high-traffic site can rack up data charges bigger than the server's own cost.
  • Operating system licensing: our Windows licence comes bundled into the rate, but Windows itself needs a minimum 4 vCPU and at least 8 GB of RAM. A workload happy to run on Linux can therefore use a smaller server with a Linux image instead. Our Forex VPS and gaming server plans both include Windows.
  • Idle servers: on hourly billing, a server left stopped still accrues a charge for its disk. Remove test servers once you are done with them, rather than merely leaving them stopped.
  • Paid add-ons: setup fees, snapshots, DDoS protection and an IPv4 address are sometimes billed separately elsewhere, instead of bundled into the plan.
  • Committing too soon: paying upfront for a lengthy term before you are sure the workload will stay stable. Begin on hourly billing, then shift to a term once usage looks steady.

Businesses can claim the GST back

Our VPS rates are quoted before 18% GST is added. A business registered for GST that supplies its GSTIN receives a tax invoice, letting it recover that GST as input tax credit — meaning the tax never becomes a real expense. See our GST billing page for how that invoice is issued.

A low-cost path to getting started

  1. Sign up and finish eKYC verification

Provide your email address to register, then verify your identity once via Aadhaar/DigiLocker or another ID document, since CERT-In mandates identity verification.

  2. Spin up the smallest workable size

Pick a standard-sized plan or configure a custom size, billed hourly, and use a Linux image unless Windows is required.

  3. Test it under real conditions

Put real traffic or workload on it for several days. If it runs short on RAM or CPU, scale up from the panel; if it mostly sits idle, a smaller plan might be enough.

  4. Switch to a term once it is stable

That same VM simply moves to a monthly or longer-term plan; the IP address and disk it already has stay put, and only the billing changes.

Frequently asked questions

What's the lowest price for a VPS in India?

Our smallest general-purpose VPS is available on monthly or hourly billing, before 18% GST, bundled with a snapshot, DDoS protection and an IPv4 address; current rates are shown on our pricing page.

Hourly or monthly: which billing works out cheaper?

Hourly suits short usage. A monthly plan runs 30% below the hourly rate, so it becomes cheaper once the server has been running for around 511 hours (roughly 21 days) in that month.

Will a stopped VPS keep costing me money?

On hourly billing, a server that has been stopped still accrues a charge for its disk, though the public IP stays free. Clear out any servers you are done with instead of leaving them idle.

Do IPv4 and DDoS protection come with extra charges?

No. Every plan already includes one snapshot, DDoS protection, a 1 Gbps port and an IPv4 address, with no setup fee charged.

Can I upgrade from a small VPS later on?

Yes. Our KVM VPS instances can grow in vCPU, RAM or disk straight from the control panel, without losing the existing IP address or data.
