See how hourly and monthly cloud server billing compare, the minimum charge, the break-even point, and how to switch plans without rebuilding your server.
Pay-as-you-go billing suits short-term flexibility, while a fixed term suits long-term commitment. Which option costs less depends on a single factor: the number of hours the server actually stays running each month.

Check VPS rates — get billed by the hour, receive a GST invoice, and have your server ready inside a minute.
Each server size carries a monthly list rate. Dividing that rate by 730 (the average hours in a month) gives you the per-hour cost. A running server is metered for every hour it starts, and the charge is drawn from a prepaid wallet. Usage is tracked in increments smaller than a paisa (or a cent, for USD accounts), with the whole month rounded off only once, on the total — never hour by hour.
Hourly billing charges for every hour that starts, with a floor of 1 hour; placing an order reserves one hour's cost from your wallet straightaway. A server that has been stopped still incurs a charge for its disk, since the disk remains reserved for you — only the public IP comes free. Removing the server entirely is what stops all charges.
A monthly plan costs 30% less than paying hourly for a full month. Commit longer and the saving grows: a 12-month term runs 44% below the hourly list rate, and a 36-month term runs 65% below it. Term plans are settled upfront.
Ending a monthly or longer plan before it finishes returns the unused portion to your wallet as credit, backed by a GST credit note, so committing to a term carries less risk of being stuck than it first appears.
Since a monthly plan sits 30% below a full month of hourly charges, it becomes the cheaper choice once a server runs for roughly 511 hours (about 21 days) within that month. Run it for fewer hours and hourly billing wins; run it for more and the monthly plan wins.
As a guide: choose a monthly plan when the server will stay on for most of the month, and stay on hourly billing for short-lived, occasional use.
You can switch an hourly server to a monthly or longer plan whenever you like. The virtual machine keeps its existing IP address and disk; switching changes only how it's billed, from the next hour onward. This makes starting on hourly billing and committing later a low-risk approach.
Compare every server size at its hourly, monthly, and multi-year rate on the pricing page, or configure a custom size on the server builder.
Yes. Hourly servers are charged for every hour that starts, with a floor of 1 hour counted from the moment the build completes. After that, you're charged only for the hours it actually runs.
Once the server runs for roughly 511 hours (about 21 days) or more within the month, since a monthly plan already sits 30% below the hourly list rate.
No. The conversion keeps the same virtual machine, IP address, and disk — only the billing changes, starting from the next hour.
Yes. We invoice both hourly usage and term plans in Indian rupees, adding 18% GST, and the tax invoice lists your GSTIN.
Yes, you're still charged for its disk, since it remains reserved for you. The public IP itself stays free.
The unused portion returns to your wallet as credit, with a GST credit note, so ending a term early is not as big a commitment as it seems.
