DDoS-Protected Game Server Hosting in India | NABHCLOUD

How NABHCLOUD shields Indian game servers from DDoS floods: scrubbing vs null-routing, UDP ports, and what Magic Transit does and doesn't stop.

Guides

A DDoS protected VPS is one where a scrubbing layer filters incoming traffic, discarding attack floods before they ever land on the server. This matters even more for game hosting, because game data moves over UDP, players leave the moment a server drops, and booter tools cost very little to rent. This guide covers how NABHCLOUD secures its servers, what that protection covers for game traffic, where its limits are, and the questions worth asking any hosting provider.

How Our DDoS Shielding Works

Every IP block NABHCLOUD announces runs through Cloudflare Magic Transit. Incoming traffic lands on Cloudflare's edge first, where large-scale floods are spotted and discarded; only the clean portion travels on to our Noida facility. This shield is live from boot on all plans and all servers, with no extra purchase, no attack switch, and no per-IP fee. Full technical detail on the network sits on our DDoS protection page.

Since the attack never reaches our own routers, we have no reason to null-route anything. Several hosts instead protect their uplinks by blackholing the targeted IP for hours at a stretch — which knocks the game server offline, the exact outcome the attacker wanted.

Beyond Gaming: DDoS Protection for Websites, APIs and Business Apps in India

This protection isn't exclusive to gaming — every NABHCLOUD VPS hosted in India runs through the same scrubbing layer, no matter the workload: a business website, an online shop, an API endpoint, an automated trading system, or an internal company tool. Floods at the network layer get filtered out right at Cloudflare's edge, long before they reach our Noida facility. Your IP is never null-routed, and nothing extra shows up on your bill.

Websites should still sit behind a WAF or a reverse proxy to catch application-layer floods, as covered further down. An API reached straight over its IP address is already covered by our network-layer shielding on that public IPv4.

What This Means for Game Servers

  • UDP game ports keep working normally — filtering targets attack patterns and traffic volumes, not specific ports, so CS2, Rust, ARK, FiveM, Minecraft, voice chat servers and custom protocols all run free of port restrictions.
  • Attack traffic never lands on your port. Our rate card has no metered-bandwidth line, so a booter attempt doesn't change your bill at all.
  • Players across India reach us over domestic network paths: round trips from our Noida location run roughly 40 ms to Mumbai, roughly 40 ms to Hyderabad and roughly 60 ms to Bengaluru.
  • Both Linux and Windows are available — our gaming plans throw in the licence for Windows Server 2022 where a title needs it, though most game-server software runs fine on Ubuntu.
  • You get root access, so you can set up AMP, LinuxGSM or Pterodactyl, or run the game binary directly yourself.

What the Network-Layer Shield Leaves Out

Magic Transit blocks floods at the network and transport layers — UDP floods, SYN floods, amplification floods and misuse of standard protocols. It doesn't look inside application logic, so a handful of things remain your responsibility:

  • HTTP floods aimed at a website or a public server-list page call for a WAF or a reverse proxy sitting in front of it; the usual fix is to proxy your domain through Cloudflare.
  • Abuse happening inside the game itself — players mass-joining through bots, or spamming login attempts — is something the game server's plugins and its own rate limits should catch.
  • Your firewall is still your job — shut every port the game doesn't need open.

Checklist Before Choosing a DDoS Protected VPS Host

  • Does the provider scrub attack traffic, or does it null-route the IP until the attack ends?
  • Is the protection built into every plan, or sold separately per tier or per IP?
  • Do attack bytes get counted against any bandwidth allowance?
  • By default, are UDP ports restricted or filtered in any way?
  • Where does the scrubbing happen, and in which location does the server itself sit?

Steps to Launch a Protected Game Server

  1. Open an account and finish eKYC

Complete one-time verification using Aadhaar/DigiLocker or a government ID, as required under CERT-In rules.

  2. Choose a plan and an OS image

Pick a gaming plan or size your own server on the configuration tool, in Linux or Windows, billed hourly or on a term.

  3. Deploy the game server

Set it up through a control panel such as Pterodactyl, or manually, opening only the ports the game actually needs.

  4. Capture a snapshot

Take a snapshot — included with the plan — before wipes, mod updates or plugin changes.

  5. Shield the website behind a proxy

If your community runs a website or store alongside the server, put it behind a reverse proxy so application-layer floods get covered too.

Questions on This Guide

Does every NABHCLOUD VPS come with DDoS protection built in?

Yes — we route every announced IP range through Cloudflare Magic Transit, which means protection is live on all our servers and plans right from boot. There's no add-on involved, and we don't charge per IP.

Can my game server get null-routed while under attack?

No. Any flood gets scrubbed right at Cloudflare's network edge, long before it reaches our own infrastructure — so there's no attacked IP to blackhole, and the server keeps serving players.

Can UDP game ports still get blocked by this filtering?

No. Filtering looks at attack signatures and traffic volume, not at specific ports. Game ports using UDP, voice chat servers and custom protocols all keep working normally.

Does attack traffic eat into my bandwidth quota?

No. Attack traffic gets stopped before reaching our datacentre, and there's no separate bandwidth charge for it on the rate card.

Will this stop HTTP floods aimed at my website?

Not by itself. Scrubbing at the network layer catches volume-based floods; a flood aimed at the application layer, like one hitting a website, still needs a WAF or a reverse proxy out front.

Can I spin up a game server for only a weekend?

Yes. We bill hourly, rounding up to the next full hour, with a one-hour minimum charge — delete the server once your event is over and billing stops.

Is DDoS protection on an Indian VPS only worth having for games?

No. Every NABHCLOUD VPS gets identical Cloudflare Magic Transit coverage — it makes no difference whether you're hosting a game, a store, an API endpoint or a business application. For a website, place a WAF or reverse proxy in front to handle application-layer floods as well.
